The Showrunner Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
