The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
