People have gathered around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most lethal day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are considered trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will not present a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership postponed official memorials until 16 October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to review the conditions of the plan.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the negotiations said that an late session of indirect talks commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but pointed out that facilitators are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the two sides.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The swap of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war governance of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "Nowhere feels like home now and until every captive come back none of us will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can commence recover," she added.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the families of the captives. Israel reports 48 continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant stated: "We must do whatever arrangement needed for the abducted to come back home. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now consistently show that about the majority of Israelis want the hostilities to conclude in as payment for the release of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of the music event, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the early hours of that day in the west side neighborhood, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the dusk falls, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, shared.

"We are afraid of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, holding each other, notably my little child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Every second we look at the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had accepted the corpses of several people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of the city reported two more victims had been delivered. One of them was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get help to the south, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
