Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and given more than 27 years in prison, but he was staying under house arrest pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a public vigil that could enable a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a document approving the custody, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His son, Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on digital networks on Friday: Will you battle for your nation, or observe everything from your phone there on your settee? I call on you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so supporters could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our country."

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was convicted of orchestrating a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a scheme which encompassed plans to murder Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The plot was stopped because it failed to get the support of the military leaders. His successor was took office without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, many Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed official structures in the national capital, Brasília.

The law enforcement took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The judges found that the protesters had been incited by him whose plan, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.

At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also barred from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the next presidential race.
