The English Team to Begin the European Championship 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground
The England national team will initiate their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the relatively straightforward passage for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to host the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.
Championship Opening and Rally
The event was unveiled at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host FAs were confronted as they entered the location by about 50 activists, who demanded Israel to be kicked out from global football because of the situation in Gaza.
Signs were displayed with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The opening game of the tournament will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will feature the Welsh team if they make it.
Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will attract family audiences and help engage a wider spectrum of fans.
Host Nations
The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualification process; two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.
Locations and Elimination Phase
The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals staged at the national stadium of each host.
The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
Leadership Comment
“The event will be a competition for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the game – its fervor and ability to bring people together.”
Over 3 million tickets, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are expected to be offered to fans.
