Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with results like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
