Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
