Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.

Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.

The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
