Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project aims to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a considerable total for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The song features a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a figure said. “We will pursue as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The song is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
